Bhastrika Kriya – The Yogic Breath of Vitality and Detoxific

What Is Bhastrika Kriya?

 

Bhastrika is a cleansing and energizing breathwork technique that involves forceful inhalations and exhalations through the nose in rapid succession. It is one of the fundamental Shat Kriyas (cleansing techniques) in Hatha Yoga and is often practiced before meditation or advanced pranayama to awaken and stabilize energy within the body.

  • Rhythmic and forceful inhale and exhale through the nose
  • Activates the diaphragm and abdominal muscles
  • Generates heat and pranic flow (life-force energy)
  • Combines breath, awareness, and sometimes breath retention (kumbhaka)
